1969 Super
Stock Mustang 427 Tunnel Port
I recently purchase a 1969 Super Stock Mustang Originally
owned and raced by Sam Auxier Jr., from Aspen Hill Maryland.
The car was built by Sam, and Chick Denino, who later built
many of the Sox & Martin cars. My father Roger Claxton
also helped with many of Sam's cars. If you do not know who
Sam Auxier is, check out www.samauxierjrracing.com
he had some very cool cars! including the only 71-73 pro-stock
mustang ever made and 1 of 6 1965 Light Weight Comets. By
far and away Sam's most successful car was this 1969 Mustang.
It was raced in the Super Stock / Ultra Stock class. Which
was run by NASCAR. All the big names competed in this Class,
including Don Nicholson Sox & Martin, and Bill Jenkins.
Sam won the 1969 Cars Magazine Shoot out by beating some of
the biggest names in racing. This car was also featured in
many magazines including Hot Rod, Car Craft, and Super Stock.
This was one of the most successful cars campaigned in 1969,
and certainly one of the most successful Fords. This car was
sponsored by Ford Motor Company and was given to Sam by Ford
to race. It is what is referred to as a "Body in White".
There is a no VIN, however the car has a part # that references
a requisition order Stamped on the cowl. The started life
with a 9 inch rear, but was later changed to a Dana. The Chassis
was built by Chick Denino, and the engine, by Sam Auxier.
It ran a 427 Tunnel Port and a 4 speed Top loader with Nash
gears. I am currently restoring the car. It should be complete
in the next 18 months. I am putting the car totally back in
its original racing condition. The ONLY exception is the brakes.
I will be adding front brakes so we can take it down the track
and nostalgic events. Sam explained that he had a difficult
time stopping the car, and even ran into his tow vehicle one
time! So I will make this one exception. If you have any parts
you think I may be interested shoot me an email.

sold, along with the bill of Sale.

Greg Viscome
Carmel, NY November 22n 1969 to April 2, 1970
I spoke with Greg's Son Drake who gave me
some great information on the Car. Unfortunately Greg passed
away at the age of 80, however it seems like he had an exciting
life. Greg owned several Ford dealerships in Upstate Ny. He
bought the car from Sam to run in the NAAR association. NAAR
was run by a guy named Walter Mentzer who also owned Keystone
raceway in Pittsburgh Pa. Greg and Drake put a Boss 429 in
the car built by the then not so famous Jack Roush, Later
as I am sure you know Gapp and Roush were and continue to
be one of the driving forces in Ford Racing. Drake ran the
car in 3 or 4 races. His son explained that they were so disorganized
they decided to sell the car and run a funny car in the NHRA.
The put a 427 tunnel port in the car and sold it to Merv Moyer.
Another interesting point is the 427 they put in the car was
out of Al Joniacs car that they had recently bought. Drake
went on to do a lot of racing in the Funny car field. He also
send me some photos of his other cars with are AWESOME several
very cool funny cars, He also had teh Rice Homan Mustang and
painted it Red. The coolest is a 68 Mustang Very Early Funny
car. Coolest looking car I have seen. Below are a few pics
of the car whey Drake and Greg were racing it. Injectors look
awesome!

Merv Moyer
Grantville, PA April 2, 1970 - ?
I have heard that Merv ran an inject 427. He ran with a bunch
of guys that all had big block injected cars, I have heard
he put on quite a show. From what I can gather he mostly left
the car as it was when Sam had it. The name on the side of
the car was "DMZ" which were the three owners of
the car. Below is a few photo when Kim Hummel Received the
car. It still had the DMZ logo on it.

Larry Wolf
I do not know much about this guy. I have heard he was a real
wild guy that would come to the track on a harley with a different
Hot girl on the back every week ( my kind of dude!). I then
heard he found God and is a preacher some where in the south!

Will Brenner will own this car!
Unknown Owner
Lebanon, PA
A guy who owned a Sunoco in Lebanon, PA.
This is where the car lost its Dana rear. I am currently looking
for this guy (need a name) and the rear! Supposedly the guy
stiffed Will Brenner and Will brought the car back after only
a few weeks

Mustang.
Gary Enders
North of Harrisburg, PA
Gary is a Great guy, he is the Tech at Beaver Springs Drag
track. Gary had the car for a short time and never ran it.
Gary also tracked down the original header for the car and
hooked me up!

This is the third time Will will own the Mustang.
Kim Hummel
Bloomfield, PA
Kim lives in PA and has a number of Antique
Ford Cars. He told me this was his only race car and had fond
memories of it. The car changed a lot under this owner and
had a new life. Kim put a mild 429 in the car. He also cut
the front end and bolted the back half of the fender to the
fire wall. Sam always said the front end was a huge pain in
the ass. I guess I would have done the same thing. Kim also
added a new front axle with brakes ( good idea! Sam said he
actually ran into the back of his own trailer once ) The car
was painted yellow and named "Kim's Taxi" The parachute
was removed because of the addition of the front brakes. I
noticed in a photo that kim gave me that the right side quarter
extension was damaged. When I checked the car out I found
out that the right side extension is cast and the left was
fiberglass. I will replace it with an original fiberglass
one. One mystery solved. I recently met Kim where he gave
me some great photos of the car, and the Original Chute Case!!
He also gave me some paper work where the car had been sold
in the past. Great guy, he really helped document the cars
unique history

Will Brenner
Harrisburg, PA December 1st, 1985
- ?
Believe it or not! Will brought the car back
from Kim. Kim said Will bugged him till he sold it. Other
than Sam I believe Will had the biggest attachment to the
car. At This stage the car went it biggest changes. The car
was back halfed. and a narrowed 9 inch was added. Will also
had the front end fiber glassed back together and added a
hood scoop and an aluminum rear wing to keep the car stable.
He ran a 429 Super Cobra Jet. Will painted the car similar
to how Sam had it in 1969. Will left the original cage but
added a few bars in order to meet current specs.
UPDATE: I am sorry to say that I have received
word that Will Brenner was killed in a Car Accident last month
August 2005. From what I understand Alcohol was involved.
Too many people die this way! Very sad.
Bill Mayton
Frederick, MD
Bill had the car sitting for the last 10 -12 years. The Super
Cobra Jet broke before the car ever made a trip down the track.
Bill lives in Frederick Maryland but the car was in Shimoken
Dam Pa. I contacted Bill about buying the car. He gave me
a Great deal because he was glad to see the car go home. Bill
currently races a bad ass late model Mustang. He can be see
racing most weekends at Mason Dixon Dragwaway in Hagerstown,
Maryland
Me, Todd Claxton
Clarksburg, MD July 2005
I will be the final owner of this great car, at least until
my Son gets a little older!

Starting Restoration
When I received the car it was in great shape
with most of the original parts including the flip front end,
roll cage, dash, floor pans, and perfect fiberglass doors.
The bad news is the car was backed halfed. I believe this
is one of the most significant 1969 Mustangs found. I will
be putting the car backed to 1969 "as raced" condition.
I will be adding the OEM frame rails and trunk pan. The tunnel
port, transmission, gauges, etc. I also recently got the original
Gebler Headers and the Chute case

I purchased a 69 Mustang donor car. I removed
the rear floor and frame section by drilling all the spot
welds out. I removed the aftermarket frame and sheet metal.
Primed everything, then installed the new rear section. Once
the new section was in it lined up right away with the original
cage!. The car was mesured with a tram gauge, then welded
in place. The areas where the cage lined up were plated and
welded just like it was in 1969. You may notice the wheel
wells were removed, this is because the car had hand made
wheel wells originally. You may also see there is no rear
floor, this is because there will be a cross member fabricated
and weled to the original pates which are still in the car.
It will then be covered by sheet metal like in 1969. What
is most complicated in restoring this car, is that it will
be put back into "race" condition, like when the
car was built originally by Sam & Chic in 1969.
